Camel Rides in the Sahara.....

Kids are on vacances from school, so we decided to go to Africa---maybe not the Africa the boys were hoping for (Eygpt, or on a Safari), but to North Africa, to the country of Morocco.  We ended up booking a tour, that took us from Fes to Marrakesh, in a very long, round about way!!  We spent one night sleeping in a private guest house (a Riad), the next in a very sandy tent in the Sahara, the third night in a hostel type hotel at the mouth of the Dades Gorges, and our final night in a big city hotel in Marrakesh.
We had a private tour guide, and a mini bus to ourselves as we drove over 700 km to get from Fes to Marrakesh.  Too much driving, but some amazing sights to see.  We saw the medina's (old city) of both Fes and Marrakesh--narrow little alleys where vehicles cannot venture.  You can hire a donkey, or bring your own, to haul out the goods that you purchase in the thousands of market stalls.  A GPS unit is almost a must, as there are over 9000 alleys in Fes, and 6000 in Marrakesh---very easy to get lost....

Anyways, enough of the talking for now--here are the photos....

This is just from our camel ride and overnight in the desert.  I will get more up shortly of the rest of the trip....

  2. Manal and I are looking at your pictures from the calgary office. Very jealous. Todd, doesn't look particularly comfortable on a camel mind....

Looks like you're all having a great adventure.

All the best from your homeland.
